Along the Way
It was a long day in the car. The drive from Moab to Cannonville, Utah where we were spending the night at Bryce Canyon RV Park and Horse Ranch, was a 7 hour drive with hours of nothing but desert. We stopped in the small town of Selena, Utah at Mom’s Cafe for a big lunch filling our tummies after the long empty drive. It was true comfort food including the homemade apple pie for dessert.
We arrived at the Bryce RV Park and Horse Ranch and quickly unhooked the trailer and set it up before continuing with our day’s plan. It was a full day for certain. We arrived at the Bryce National Park Visitor Center before it closed. We continued with our audio tour guiding us through the park. We took Kenobi with us on the 3 ½ hour driving tour of Bryce Canyon National Park stopping at overlooks and taking the short dog approved trails. We would pay for that decision later but that's in a later post. There was a lot of in and out of the tall truck. My legs would not miss hoisting myself into the seat when this trip was over. Kenobi wore his new Bark Ranger bandana proudly. At the Amphitheater overlook Kenobi found a family who love dogs and he snuggled right up to them! They could have pet him all day. After a 15 minute pleasant conversation, we explained our long day and needed to be on our way. We really enjoyed the sights of Bryce Canyon, but after our 3 ½ hour tour, we were ready to head back to the trailer to stretch out and enjoy a late snack. It was when we arrived back at the trailer that we realized it was 9:30 p.m. and we had been traveling and exploring for over 12 hours straight!
Wildlife: none
Trailer: no issues
Funny Story: I discovered during our audio tour that when you smell their bark ponderosa pines smell like vanilla or butterscotch. So I decided that I was going to smell multiple trees to determine if the statement was true and which trees were ponderosa pines. I was smelling the forest through the trees.
Reflection: I knew that this day was going to be a long one. When planning this day 6 months earlier, I figured this would be the day that our patience with each other and the world would crash. It didn’t. We were mentally prepared ahead of time for the expectations of a crazy long day. Setting the expectations while always allowing for home for change really helps me mentally prepare myself both mentally and physically.
