Not What I Expected

Image
This summer I was looking for a fall and winter project.  What was I thinking? I have been so busy so far this fall. Alas, my neighbor was having a yard sale and I thought I would scope it out to see if he had any furniture for me to repurpose.  He had lots of items on display.  He had moved into his mother's home 2 summers ago when his mother was moved to a nursing facility.  He has plans to sell her house this summer and has been in the process of clearing it out to prepare to put it on the market. There was a large range of items from glassware, to old tools to furniture.  I had my eye on 5 items: a footstool, 2 cedar chests, a wooden tree coat rack and a wooden bench made from a tree that had been planed and fashioned into a rustic bench.  The prices were all too high for "playing around" so I walked away and told him to call me if they didn't sell.  I got the call the next afternoon.  I had thought that if I could get one cedar chest that wou...

Traventure Day 9 - 10: Flagstaff to Las Vegas to Cleveland

As discussed the previous night at dinner, we decided to skip the sights we had originally planned on seeing and head straight to Vegas for some time sitting pool side.  We packed up the car for the final time and headed to Williams, Arizona for breakfast.  It was my quick decision to stop at Anna's Canyon Cafe .  I am not exactly certain of the history of Anna's, but it is somewhat related to a brothel and their gift shop reflected it selling suggestive t-shirts and wooden nickels for a good time.  Little did I know that breakfast would turn into a short walk about Williams on a Sunday morning with a very unique attraction, the Poozeum .  The owner told us it began as a traveling exhibit of fossilized dinosaur poop that eventually found it's home in Williams.  The free museum was definitely entertaining and a bit educational too.  There are two Guinness Book Record holders in the building.  The largest coprolite by a carnivorous animal belongs to...

Traventure Day 8 - Winslow to Flagstaff

Image
We woke up in Winslow and decided to visit a local Farmer's Market as we strolled along the walkway.  Bruce and I didn't find any treasures, but Betty found some homemade lotions and seasonings.  The weather was warm, but not hot and there was a nice breeze.  As we walked down the walkway we were greeted with signs that contained a different message depending on which direction you walked.  We eventually made it to some trains on display.  Of course my curious husband hopped on board and peered through the window, before noting the "stay off the train" signs.  My husband's excitement and need to touch things had become a source of laughter during the trip.  We all just shook our head.  In his defense, the sign was posted mid train and not visible the the caboose he boarded.  But it also did not come as a surprise when he decided to climb the rocks at the rest area.  He said his children would be disappointed and say he was too old...
