Legend-ary Cross Country Trip - Day 1 The Beginning

Odometer Reading: 0 - 206 Departed: Novelty, Ohio 10 a.m. Arrived: Fremont, Indiana 3:30 p.m. Overnight: Harvest Host Edna Mae’s Landing

Along the Way

We stopped at Blue Heron Ohio Turnpike Rest Area.  We stretched.  I grabbed an ice chai from Starbucks and a couple sandwiches. When arriving at a stop along the drive, I would take Obi for a walk so he could take care of business and get him some water. Our biggest observation at the rest area was all the places he couldn’t go.  All the signs said for dogs to use the “pet exercise area”, not generally a problem.  But my emotions were a bit on edge, and I walked around the entire facility and couldn’t find the pet area.  Finally, bruce located it by the gas station and highway.  First off, a horrible place. And B put up a directional sign somewhere close to the facility or the parking for people to see.  “Do better Ohio.”

Wildlife: Deer in the meadow at the farm

Trailer: No Issues

Funny Story: We were using a new app that we purchased specifically to help me plan the trip, RV Life.  It helped me with mapping overnight stays, gas stations, etc. and provided a GPS turn by turn map to use.  Bruce did not yet trust it and decided to follow google to lead us to our first Harvest Host.  It didn’t do well.  It led us to the back corner of their farm which was located in a little cottage area with very small streets that we needed to eek the trailer through.  Bruce did a great job, but it was nerve wracking for our first stop.

Reflection:  The farm we stayed at had electricity for us to use.  A nice long mowed path for us to walk and let Obi off his leash to run.  It was incredibly quiet and peaceful.  The farm was located on the border of Indiana and Michigan. As we sat outside watching the sunset, we were able to turn our heads to the right and see Michigan as we took in the landscape of Indiana.
