Locked down in a Heatwave
I was crawling the walls in April to get outside to sunshine. Two months later, I find myself trying to stay cool in a heatwave along with my other northeast Ohio friends. When we camping the third weekend in July the heatwave began. Thankful for our window air conditioner, the humidity made the air so think it was chewy. I managed to stay relatively cool and remembered our days without air conditioning. I enjoy the cool air, but it is so loud that to hear the television, I have to turn it off the air conditioner. The unit is in the living room so my bedroom can become a furnace after day 4 of a heatwave. The first 4 days, I can mange a intricate dance of closing curtains, the whole house fan and strategic standing fan placement. Typically, we have retreated to the lower level during a heat wave, but my youngest has moved in after obtaining her Master's Degree until she begins her career as an epidemiologist. The current political climate has made that a more difficult process. I digress. I am extremely grateful for our float pool that I have spent no less than an hour and a half, twice a day for 5 days straight. Even without the solar cover, by day 3 the pool was almost too warm to be refreshing, but it was the only way I could handle being outside for more than 15 minutes. So that equates to being back in the house. It feels like that Jurassic Park movie scene where the car falls off the ledge and into a tree. Then the characters climb out of the car in the tree only to have the car fall out of the tree and land back on top of them. Then the boy says defeatedly "Well, we are back in the car again." I have been released from my winter cocoon and then the heat and mostly the humidity sends me back inside. I was hoping to finish my final cedar chest project, but the humidity is to high to even sand, let alone paint or sand. May be by fall it will be done?
Reflection: It is too easy to complain in a heatwave. Have I become "That" person? Pull it together! This heat wave will end and I will be out sipping iced Chai on my porch again. Leave a comment of how you stay cool in a heatwave. Be honest, do you too complain about the heat when just 2 months ago you were complaining about the cold?
