Globetrotting through London - Saying Goodbye

Our direct flight to return to the Pittsburgh International Airport was scheduled for late afternoon.  Our check out of the hotel was noon.  So it looked like we would be spending some quality time at Heathrow airport.  The Tube ride only took an hour.  Upon check out my husband surprised me be booking us afternoon english tea. It was something I had wanted to do, but we didn’t have extra time in our schedule.  The tea was hosted by the hotel’s adjacent restaurant and served outside in the garden beneath a temperature controlled glass dome.  It was very decadent and well as being deliciously filling. I enjoyed a pot of Strawberry Cream Tea with my tier of delights.

After our tea, we walked over to the Tube to take us to Heathrow.  From there it was a normal travel day. I couldn’t connect to the airport wi-fi, our gate was not announced until it was boarding and we had to walk a great distance and take a bus to our airplane.  It is always so odd to me to board a plane from the tarmac.  Bruce and I again were lucky that the flight was not full and we had the row to ourselves. This time I moved over to give us more space.  Did I mention the free wine on the flight?  The flight attendant gave me 2 bottles to start me off. They lasted me the whole flight.

We arrived at to the states a bit after 7:30 p.m. and made the drive home through the cold rain. The skies were dark and the roads were wet which challenged our eyes that had been open for 16 1/2 hours.  We tried to sleep on the plane, but were not successful.

Our globetrotting through London was a fun, but exhausting adventure.  We were looking forward to sleeping in our own bed and sleeping late.  But alas we were still on London time and had no food in the house.  Our return was greeted with a busy day of errands and catching up on business until our bodies completely shut down at 6 p.m.
