Globetrotting through London - Day 4 - East London & Canary Wharf
Our London City Go pass was expired, so we were no longer tied down to an itinerary. We knew we would be traveling by Tube over to the Excel to watch some of our son’s Flesh and Blood Pro Tournament. The event itself is not conducive for fan watching. We were amazed at the over 900 hundred players in the space. It took us a while to find Alex. He was still in the roped off part of the tournament so we had to watch from afar. We were happy to see him win a round, but knew our old tired legs would not be able to stand and watch his next match. After a couple hours, we headed out.
Our travel tradition is sharing in the planning and where we want to visit. We talk things through, but the ultimate decision is left to the “assigned” spouse. I was in charge of planning our first three very heavy touristy days. Bruce was in charge of the last three days. We were on his schedule now. After leaving the Excel we traveled to Canary Wharf and walked the river. We had thought of having lunch at Fairgame. It is a great concept of bar, food and amusement park midway games all wrapped into one place. After walking through, we opted for something a little less seizure inducing and quieter. We walked over the bridge and found the perfect spot. We had lunch at the phenomenal Burger & Lobster along the river for lunch. The lobster roll and lobster Mac & cheese hit the vacation taste buds.
After lunch, we decided to take a walk on the Queen’s Way back to Tower Bridge to pick up a key chain that we will use as a Christmas ornament and a double decker bus for our grandson. We walked back across the river on the Tower bridge at street level. The day we took a tour we walked high above the bridge roadway. We continued walking past the Tower of London and back to the Tower Hill Tube station. We picked up a bottle of wine for the night and enjoyed a glass sitting in the hotel's courtyard before settling in with a movie for the remainder of the evening in our suite.
