Purposeful Puppy Passion

Taking advantage of a little quiet time to make a post. There hasn't been much quiet time at the house since we welcomed 3 - 13 week old heeler puppies through Rescue Village's Foster Program the last Saturday in January. (The photo above is them getting ready for nap time. Getting a photo of 3 uncontained puppies is no joke.)

My passion and love of dogs has been evident my entire life. I briefly fostered with my youngest daughter while I was still working and she was a senior in high school. Once she left for college, I didn't feel that I had the time to devote to fostering the way I wanted to do it. Flash forward 6 years, I am no longer working and am home 95% of each week. So I re-enrolled in the foster program, took the online training and am currently fostering these energetic pups for a few weeks before they will be available for adoption at Rescue Village.

Just like babies, I sleep when they sleep and I sleep hard! I am so happy to have this purposeful experience as tiring as it can be. I do better with a schedule always being prepared for the unpredictable. I have an hour long routine that I do every 3 - 4 hours from 7:30a.m.ish to about 8 p.m. In this hour I can walk each dog around the yard to take care of business, let them have 15 - 20 minutes of chaotic free play and cuddle time depending on their mood, another sniffari around the yard and 3 tired puppies in their crate. During their playtime, I clean their crate if needed and play referee. I play music for them during the day. These 3 calm down to acoustic pop and country folk music. I tried modern pop but it was too exciting for crate time and had them singing (or whining), so I switched back to acoustic. My husband was amazed how they quickly settled down with the change of music. My body may get tired, but my heart is full of loving energy.

If you have time and a love for dog or cats, I suggest that you contact your local animal shelter and see if they have a foster program available.
